Jean Bay Wiley was a secretary to the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning in a suburban Minneapolis school district before turning to writing contemporary fiction for the young adult reader. At one time she was the office receptionist and secretary to the Executive Director of The Loft Literary center.

She is a member of The Loft Literary Center, a member of SCBWI, and a member of a critiquing group, MNYA, who focus on young adult literature.

While working at the school district, she was invited to write an article on teacher mentoring, which was published in Teaching PreK-8 (a subsidiary of Highlights for Children). The article is online here:

She has taken a variety of classes and workshops in fiction writing at The Loft Literary Center. She has a degree in English Literature from Carleton College, and has done postgraduate work in Library Science and Communications, including some technical writing, at the University of Minnesota.

She also has fond memories from the time she served on the Board of Minnesota Quilters Guild and wrote book reviews for their monthly newsletter.
